85 Newland Street, as the first premises of the Witham Co-operative Society. It was founded in 1887 and in 1896 moved to larger premises further down the street. Also includes on left, part of 83 Newland Street, and on right, part of 87 Newland Street. The card is made into a Christmas and New Year card and on the front is ‘1887-1909’ but it is perhaps an old picture as the Co-op moved in 1896 as far as we know. Addressed to ‘Mr Hubbard, “Committee”, Co-op Society, Witham’, reads ‘With kind regards and Best Wishes for a Happy New Year from Mr & Mrs Claydon’.
