Albert Wayland Shelley, with sons George (left) and Arthur and horse and cart at a Carnival in the Park (Recreation ground). Arthur was born in 1923 and George in 1925. In 1929 ‘Mr Shelley’ won the first prize for ‘Tradesmen’s Turn-outs’ (Essex Chronicle 6 September 1929) and in 1930 it was ‘A C Mens’ (Braintree and Witham Times 29 August 1930), so it could be either as Mr Shelley worked for Mr Mens.
