Advert for E C Smith with drawing of shop at 42 Newland Street. Reads ‘E C Smith, Family Tea Dealer and Grocer, Linen and Woollen Draper, High Street, Witham. Agent for Huntley and Palmers and Peek Freans Biscuits’. Edward Charles Smith inherited the business of his father Edward Smith in 1864, with a drapers shop at 42 Newland Street and grocers at 74-76 Newland Street. After E C Smith died in 1889 the busiess was taken over by Mr Spurge his assistant.
