Bill Robinson (William Robinson) at his nurseries in Hatfield Road or Bridge Street, with field of daffodils. Exact location uncertain. I put site of Bramston Sports Centre in ‘Images of Witham’ but this may be wrong. Charlie Poulter thought it was from the east of the Bridge Home in Hatfield Road, where the ambulance station now is. Closer comparison with maps suggests it is more likely to be in the field behind the Bridge Home, adjoining Spinks Lane, and to be facing more or less due south. ‘Braintree and Witham Times’, 8 October 1931, page 7, col 5, reports death of Mrs Maria Robinson, ‘wife of Mr W N Robinson nurseryman of Bridge Street’. She was daughter of Mr H Barber of Wickham Bishops. Before living at Witham, they were at Kelvedon, ‘where Mr Robinson was for 6 years head gardener to Lord Weston [sic] at Felix Hall’
