Volkswagen Car from Witham District Motor Club, with a ‘Carnival 1958, 3rd Prize’ sign (but the date 1958 doesn’t appear to relate to the date of the Carnival because the car is registration number 375 NNO and was registered in 1959. The Witham Motor Club won a third prize at the 1964 Carnival according to the Braintree and Witham Times of 26 June 1964 (page 7), and I can’t find them in earlier ones, so it may well be from that date. The car belonged to Malcolm Smith, who was the driver. Gordon Ager was observer (standing up looking out) and Brian Wallace the navigator. The car behind (379 or 879 FEV) was registered in 1955. The club met in Collingwood Road car park on Sunday mornings.
