Certificate issued by Witham Labourers’ Friend and Agricultural Society to Moses Brown

Certificate issued by Witham Labourers’ Friend and Agricultural Society to Moses Brown for thatching on 9 October 1856. He was recommended by Mr T Smith of Wickham. There was a Moses Brown aged 31, agricultural labourer, born and living in Wickham Bishops, with wife and 7-year old son, in 1861 census (RG 9/1107, f.121, p.1; see word doc on MB). Signed by Lord Rayleigh (president), Jonathan Hutley and Rev John Bramston (committee), William Hutley and Edward Smith (secretaries). The prize was £1 10s. The event took place at Olivers farm.
