Taken: 1890s, Source: Smith, Maurice. Now vol 2, C18, Witham library, Ref: M1077

‘Chipping Hill Witham’. View west from near railway bridge. Field left foreground, later site of Earlsmead which built 1899 (from Witham building plan no.110). Left of centre, tower of parish church. Centre, 10 Chipping Hill and 12 Chipping Hill. Right of centre behind trees, 8 Chipping Hill (Temples). Extreme right behind trees, probably part of the Albert public house (2 Chipping Hill). There are many other versions of this view with people standing in the in front. Possibly it was popular to have oneself included in it. For instance see M864.
