Chipping Hill, looking west towards Chipping Hill bridge. On left, left to right, 51 Chipping Hill, 53 Chipping Hill, 55 Chipping Hill, old barn or shed on the site now occupied by 51A Chipping Hill. On right, left to right, 34 Chipping Hill, 32 Chipping Hill, since demolished. Postmark is 1930 but pic probably earlier because Afford seems to have retired c 1920 to judge from directories. Postmark 30 August 1930. Addressed to Mr & Mrs W Jeffs, 12 Elston Road, Bedford, Beds. Message reads ’59 Bridge St, Witham, Essex. Dear Mr and Mrs Jeffs, You will be pleased to hear I am feeling a little better. This is a lovely place here, all country lanes. The air is far better than sleepy old Bedford. I’m afraid I shall not want to come back from Bedford. Best wishes from Dorothy’.
