Group on balcony at Public Hall. Could perhaps be the declaration of the poll in October 1933. Left to right: (1) David Maidment (elected to UDC October 1933, 1937, then through WW2). (2) James Croxall (elected to UDC October 1933, 1937, then through WW2). (3) Captain John Noel Pelly of Witham Lodge (elected to UDC April/May 1937, then till died in 1945; wife Rosalind replace him then, she drove a big grey Hudson car). (4) Rev C W Barlow, vicar of Witham 1933-1936. (5) Derek Bright (info from Amanda Bright). (6) ??? (reading from paper). (7) Police Inspector Herbert Chaplin (promoted to Inspector 1927, posted to Witham 1933). (8) ???. (9) Esmond Smith (elected to UDC 1928, 1931, October 1933, 1935, 1938, then through WW2). (10) Army officer, Border regiment uniform (according to Ian Hook). (11) ???.

A relative of theirs from the Midlands (perhaps a brother) asked David, who was driving him in a taxi, to dispose of them about the 1980s, perhaps when the sisters moved to a home or when one died.
