Witham Cricket Club, group. From article about history of team. Standing, left to right, four of the first eight are H S Mortimer (‘Granny’ Mortimer’s late husband), John Mann (beard), James Gamble, Don Davey (greyish shirt, with bat). Then Frank Bawtree (tall, grey jacket, black hat, ball in hand, captain), Charlie Stevens (bit behind, white cap, bat), Charlie Roberts (beard, bat, club professional, publican at the Bell, Maldon Road), Ted Mortimer, W Potter-Groves or Mortimer Groves (first part of article says MG, probably scorer; only one still alive in 1932; later part says WP-G). Sitting, left to right, Fred Pluck, Joe Pluck (who was later umpire), W Shee (first part of article says WS is on the left, but remarks on the football studs in his shoes, which seems to confirm the later part which implies he is here on the right). The dog belonged to Mr Bawtree, captain, and would retrieve balls during practice evenings.
