Football team, ‘Old Boys’

Football team, the Warren Old Boys, based at the Victoria, Powershall End. Perhaps taken at the entrance to Blunts Hall. With cup, football is inscribed ‘[???] Old Boys FC 1926-1927’. Back row, extreme left, is Septimus Albert Champ (manager, who had been landlord of the Crotchet from 1913 to 1920; he was born 1867 and died in 1953). Back row centre, George Hayes (of Chalks Road). Back row, second from right, Horace Brooks (later of Faulkbourne Road). Front row, second from left, ‘Borley’ Thorogood. Front row centre, with cup, Albert (Bert) Philip Champ (born 1896, died 1973). Front row far right, Percy Smith who married Miriam Mead. The mascot of the team was Dorothy Champ, Bert’s small daughter, later Mrs Smart of 1 Cressing Road. Percy was named by Rose Burch, the rest by John Champ, grandson of Septimus, cousin of Dorothy.
