Fred Spall and his ‘Ner-a-car’ (he died 1966). Behind 24 Rickstones Road, next to the evangelical church. Recreation ground behind, with pavilion and Little Elms farm (now public house) in background. He ordered it from the USA, it came in flat pack and he assembled it. They were invented 1916-18 in the USA, but not made till 1921 (by Simplex at Sheffield, UK, then 1923 at Kingston on Thames, marketed by Simplex), and in 1922 (by Ner-A Car- at Syracuse, New York). Various different models. Production ceased in England in 1927 and in the US in 1928. Several now restored and raced.
