Girls at Crittall’s lead glazing factory

Taken: 1926-1929, Source: Pennock, Tony, Ref: M1780

Girls at Crittall’s lead glazing factory in Maltings Lane. This was a little-known branch of the main Crittall’s metal window factory. The back row includes:- Emily Carter (2nd from left, later Mrs Charlie Wade – for more about her and the building, see the previous photo, M1779). Miriam Mead (4th from left, forewoman, later Mrs Percy Smith, half sister of Edith Cowell later Shelley, who was mother of Mrs Rose Burch who gave the information). Evvy Hammond (perhaps) (far right, of Cressing, later Mrs Brown). The front row includes:- Ethel Ellis (2nd from left, later Mrs Butcher, her father was a fireman, (possibly Herbert), she lived in Bridge St, her brother was Arthur (Geoff) Ellis of Rex Mott Court, father of Valerie Fowles who gave the information) Evelyn Baldwin (4th from left, later Mrs Arthur Shelley) (not Florrie Baldwin as first suggested by Tony Pennock her nephew, he revised his view, because Evelyn worked at Crittall’s and Florrie at Pinkham’s; they were very alike).
