Glover’s garage at 155 Newland Street and 157 Newland Street (West End garage). Glover’s firm moved here from their cycle shop at 149 Newland Street. It is said that this was the occasion when seventy cars were assembled for the wedding at Wickham Bishops of Mr G Duncan Rowe, a London millionaire, and Miss Frances Mary (Molly) Allen, daughter of the Revd. William Allen, rector of Wickham Bishops. The cars took the 250 guests from the church to the reception at High Hall. The leading car is a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. The car on the left (F1494) was a 14-20 h.p. Renault, 15 cwt, with a green ‘tonneau’ body; in 1906 Glovers had bought it for ‘use as a public conveyance’ it from Collingwood Hope of Crix, Hatfield Peverel (he had been its first registered owner in 1905) (reg. Void 1920) (information from ERO C/DF 11/1).
