Part of Witham Home Guard during the Second World War. Probably in front of the TA headquarters in Guithavon Road.
Middle row 5th from right, is Maurice Jeffrey. He lived, when married, in Albert road, no 11, two doors from the Temperance Hotel (no.9). Previously he lived in Braintree Road. He had failed the army medical due to a heart condition (information from Brian Simpson).
