Irene Mondy (b 1901) on left, her mother Beatrice Ellen Mondy on right. With dog. With tennis rackets, on the tennis court which was in the ‘bottom’ garden of 63 Newland Street, reached by an arch at the back of the main garden (now the site of two bungalows accessed from Maldon Road, i.e. Gueth Cottage and Ridgeway). There was a green door into the bottom garden from the back access road to the Spread Eagle from Maldon Road; the door is still there. The cedar tree in the photo was about half way along the southern boundary of the back part of the garden, on the boundary with the Maldon Road Recreation Ground (the Park), and is still there in the garden of one of the bungalows. The Park is behind.
