Lawn House, Lawn Chase, awaiting demolition. Copied from newspaper article dated 14 November 1969 which read ‘Lawn House, Newland Street, once a school under the headship of Miss Barbara English, will be demolished to make way for three detached houses. Witham urban council planning committee gave permission for the development to J M Darlington (Ongar) Ltd on Tuesday evening. Miss English, who owns the property and is a member of the council but not of the planning committee, was listening from the public seats as members talked over the application’.
