Close-up of maker’s mark on ginger beer bottle c.6 inches high, reading ‘Doulton & Co Limited / Lambeth’, with the number 3. The bottle is inscribed ‘S.T.Wood, Witham’, and belongs to Martyn Drake, who found it at 145-147 Newland Street. Samuel Thomas Wood’s shop was at 145 Newland Street, c.1890 to 1930. He was usually known as Billy Wood, probably after William (Billy) Simpson who had the shop before him, and to whom he was probably related (see photo M1057). See Samuel Thomas Wood in the people files.
