Old photo of soldiers during First World War, with a mixed military and civilian and brass band (information from Ian Hook, Essex Regiment Museum). Marching southwards down bottom of Collingwood Road, turning into Newland Street. Some civilians. Buildings include, left to right, on left, 38 Newland Street (with ‘AA’ sign), 1 Collingwood Road, 3 Collingwood Road, 5 Collingwood Road, 7 Collingwood Road, 9 Collingwood Road (7 and 9 being Lockram Villas). On right, Water Tower, 6 Collingwood Road, 4 Collingwood Road, 2 Collingwood Road, 36 Newland street (the George).
