Taken: After about 1920., Source: Braintree and Witham Times, Ref: M401

Old photo of wide part of Newland Street looking east. Left hand side of road, 64 Newland Street (chemist). Charlie Poulter (oral history tape 9) said that the bus on the left is the old Crittall’s bus that used to run from Braintree via Silver End to Witham (Witham works were built in 1920). Right hand side of road, starting just left of centre of photo, 57 Newland Street (3-storey with 7 windows in a row, and porch), 59 Newland Street (two-storey, light coloured, since demolished), 61 Newland Street (with clock), 63 Newland Street (ironmonger, Mondy on fascia; Mondy arrived between 1917 and 1922 according to directories).
