Patriotic play at the Grove, ‘The Birth of the Union Jack’ (no.4). Group in Welsh dress. Include Miss Springett (extreme left), Phyllis Atkins (in centre, sitting on throne, in black hat, portraying ‘Dame Jones’; she lived in Avenue Road. Her mother was a widow; they were related to Councillor Esmond Smith), Ruth Peecock (the left hand one of the two sitting in front; her father was Henry Beck Peecock, manager of Barclays bank). Names mostly from Lucy Croxall.
