Recess (14 Chipping Hill) from the front. John Douglas Dean, builder, and his wife Edith Bessie (nee Rust) lived there with their son Peter c 1921-1929; Peter says that the shutters were green. Postcard sent to their son Peter in Malaya, i.e. Major P S W Dean, Contingent Special Branch, PO Box 10, Alor Star, Kedah, Malaya, probably in the 1950s, but it is an older card. Message reads ‘Expect you remember this – Recess. Witham. You should see it now. A Shambles. Waifs & strays, children – found this in my draw. Love, Daddy’.
