Rev. Francis Galpin blowing a lengthy musical instrument. Probably printed in a magazine, with the heading “The Vicar-Musician at Home”, and the caption “The Rev F W Galpin, who has just been appointed Vicar of Witham, Essex, has a collection of nearly 600 musical instruments, all of which he can play. The photograph shows him with a horn used in the worship of Bacchus 100 years B.C.”

A handwritten note on the side reads “Am very glad to note that you have such an attractive vicar. We encountered him once in his Church at Hatfield Broad Oak, and found him most entertaining. Greetings to you both, TWLH[?]”. Rev Galpin was vicar of Witham 1915-1921.
