Scots soldier, probably in Avenue fields. Piper with 2/4th or 2/5th Royal Scots Fusiliers, who were in Essex March 1916 to January 1917 (info from Ian Hook, Essex Regiment Museum). Message reads ’12th July 1916. Dear Aunt Bella, This was taken a week past on Sunday in the camp by a photographer from Witham. I am leaning over to the right side, otherwise is not bad. The photographer should have seen to this. Hope you are all keeping well. Love to all. Kisses to Mabel. Your Loving Nephew, Lewis’.
