Ted Dersley’s front garden at 25 Cross Road. He worked at Cullen’s seed trial grounds in Cut Throat Lane.
This photo was taken by Angela, Ted’s wife. Here is her descriptions of the photo.
“Opposite are the Council Bungalows. Next to the first bungalow is the lane up to the Council Yard where the old Water Tower was. The Yard is now a housing estate and the lane is the Chaseway.
Hi Janet, I knew you would like the front garden in Cross Road. Yes, Ted grew all the flowers from seed. He also kept the back garden. As you can see outside the back door were these lovely Polyanthus. The rest of the back garden was vegetables which again Ted grew from seed.
He had Cockerels which he reared for the Table and for Christmas, and of course Ted was always around the fields so plenty of rabbits too which was a popular meal for many in those days! Each year the front garden looked lovely and was admired by many! Hope all’s well, Angela x
So proud of my Ted, he has always kept a beautiful garden. Our front garden here in Glebe Crescent was just as lovely until we had to make it into a driveway, but Ted still kept lovely borders down the sides. Every year our back garden is full of beautiful flowers all grown by Ted. So proud of him.” 20200225081948_01 (2).jpg
