Women in swimming pool

Taken: 1933-1939, Source: Valerie Knock, Ref: M610

Women in the open-air swimming pool behind the Swan (153-155 Newland Street). See M232, M233, M577 for opening etc. May include Mrs Thirza[?] Rudkin (top left, facing camera, light hat, wife of Albert, shoe repairer). Includes Mrs Edith Redman who is the bottom one of the three at top centre. She weighed 13 and a half stone and learnt to swim in the pool at the age of 54 and had a Certificate of Merit for swimming a certain number of yards. She was so keen she used to cycle to Maldon to swim in the pool there (information from her from Mrs Ann Redman in 2001; also obituary, 1956, filed in people files). Other people may include Mrs Jessie Smith (nee Walker, worked for Crittall’s) and Mrs Thirza Rudkin (wife of Albert, shoe repairer). Same occasion as M611 and may be same as M2830.
