Born 1922, Chelmsford

Family
Grandfather, Fred Mott, farmer of Coldnailhurst farm, Braintree, grandmother Kate Mott.
Father Rex Mott, born 1891. His brothers Donald Fred Mott, Bernard John Mott, his sisters Mabel Gigney, Elsie Sansard, Florence Kennedy.
Mother Maud Laudrum, from Felsted.
Parents married 1916. Father, Rex Mott, first worked at Marconi in Chelmsford, then tool room in Crittall’s at Silver End, where became manager of tool room. He was also a District Councillor and eventually a County Councillor.

Residences
Navigation Road, Chelmsford, then temporarily with grandparents at Coldnailhurst and then at Causeway Cottage, when father (Rex) got job at Crittall’s at Silver End, then 5 Silver Street Silver End. When married in 1947 Joan moved away. Back to Silver End with parents when she and husband separated c 1952.

School
Silver End School, then Intermediate School, Braintree (non-fee-paying), then Chelmsford Technical College for a year, commercial subjects.

Married

1947, Ron Lyon. Separated c 1952.
Later (1990s?) David Smith. He died after a few years.

Child
Graham.

Work
War time at Crittall’s in office. Work again in 1950s, at Tax Office in Witham. Then work in Chelmsford, then London. In 1961 to work at Braintree College to be nearer parents. In 1963 after mother died, back to London in Civil Service, London Communications Security Agency, and offshoot of GCHQ.

Council
Witham Urban District Councillor. Became County Councillor in 1981.
