Born 1908

Parents
Father Walter, died when Alf was very young and he doesn’t remember him. His people lived at Finchingfield.
Mother Mary Ann Newman, nee Heard, widowed and cleaned at Guithavon Street School and lit the fires etc. Also took in washing, laid people out who’d died, etc. Went to the Peculiar People chapel. Died aged 79

Brothers and sisters Two sisters and one brother. He was second youngest between the sisters and his brother George who was youngest.

Lived Guithavon Valley as child. Then to Cross Road.
When married, 1938, to 12 St Nicholas Road, and still there at time of interview in 1991.

Married 1938 Mildred Cheverton[?], from Kelvedon, trained in children’s nursing at Sydenham.

Second World War. In airforce.

Work: For his uncle Reuben Wood in greengrocery business, supplying local shops etc.
